She has been accepted into a treatment program in Seattle with a treatment that could save her. It is an extremely expensive treatment and Shaun is without insurance. She is receiving some assistance, but we don't know how much or soon and time is against us.

We are raising the money needed to get Shaun this desperately needed treatment. Our goal is just under a million dollars. Seems like a lot, but we know we can do it, and here's how:

I am actually traveling to do some work in Eugene, OR from Jan 11-21 setting up a new Lowes and I am in need of a ride. If you are heading to Portland I can catch a greyhound to Eugene for fairly cheap. If you are heading to Eugene that is even better. I can offer a great conversation and/or gas money if you are available. Please email me at amangielangomat@yahoo.com if available. I have some friends in the Eugene area I will be staying with while I am there.
And I highly recommend everyone going!

It's written by Maria Devanna Headly (hope I'm spelling her name correctly) who grew up in Marsing. Starring Glen Hughes, one of my favorite people on and off stage! It's about a 'wild man' who's trying to keep his land from the developers of a huge resort. The characters are stereotypical, (I felt that's the way it was meant to be portrayed), but the actors still bring hilarious quirks and fullness to each one. Bravo!

Be prepared for much language and some non-pc jokes, but if you're not a prude, you'll laugh!
They're running the show through next weekend and tickets are selling quick.

Friday, April 18th (one week from this one!), we're hosting a fund raiser for a Burning Man art project! DJs include Nappy Jeff (he's a virgin, be gentle), Kel Thomas, stEvil, and DJ Stormshadow! $5 to get you into the Bucket, show starts at 8.

This is a fundraiser for a memorial that will be built at Burning Man this year. A field of skis, over 100 feet long by 30 feet wide rises from the dusty playa. A path down the middle leads you to two benches, and a lone set of skis, a helmet, and boots. Brad Peterson was my friend, Judis' lover, and a great man. He died doing what he loved, skiing the trees, this winter. He was solo at the time, but not alone. We're bringing his skis, and at least another hundred pair, to remind ourselves, and Brad, that we wasn't really alone.

Please come out and support this project, hear great music, and dance with your friends. We need rebar (anybody got some waste, 18 to 24 inches) and hardware.

I've already got almost 100 pairs of skis, although we'll take yours too!

We decided to meet again on 2/13/08 at 7:30 at the Flying M~and the assigment is "(Pre-Valentines) Emotion". shoot towards that subject and bring one picture to share with the group. We give everyone the opportunity to tell a little about their thought proccess and how they shot the photo. Makes for a good venue of questions and answers, and a great way to meet others with a similar interest!

You are more than welcome to join us. Any skill level and any format is encouraged.
Hope to see ya there!

Hi everyone;

I am writing to let everyone know that we have
extended our punch card special for our "Making Rhythm
Together" beginner classes. The sale price of $50.00
for an 8 week punch card (that's $6.25 a class, what a
deal!) will extend until October 12th - just come to
the class on the night you prefer and register then.
This week, we have three new MRT class sessions
starting - one on Wednesday from 6-7pm (Rick Thomson,
instructor), another on Thursday from 7-8pm (with
three different instructors sharing the session - Matt
McCarter, instructor - with Ben Pursley the following
week - third week's instructor tba) and finally, one
on Saturday from 10-11am (Trisha Kruse, instructor).
Drums are available at no additional cost for these
classes.

These classes are all based on the same basic format
where students can expect the focus from week to week
to be these topics:

WEEK 1 - drum type, technique and the concept of SAY
IT, PLAY IT.
WEEK 2 - on beat, off beat
WEEK 3 - rhythm dialog
WEEK 4 - dividing and sub-dividing
WEEK 5 - phrasing and space
WEEK 6 - traditional song or pattern

This format allows teachers with varying backgrounds
and experience to share their music around those
common foundational topics. It also allows students
(when they use the punch card) to try out different
teachers or go to more than one session about a
particular topic.

We also have a MRT youth class for ages 10-16 on
Thursdays from 6-7pm (Patrick Sullivan, instructor)
that is in its second week and has seats available.
There is also a great on-going beginner session class
that is in its 3rd week of six on Mondays from 6-7:30
(Carolyn Failla, instructor). This session class is a
bit more focused and standardized than the MRT classes
and is also open to beginners.

Come on by and check us out. By week's end we will be
offering classes 6 days a week with more to be added
in the near future. Also - LOOK for our Saturday
workshop series starting October 13th with a
didgeridoo workshop (Aaron Maynard, instructor). $30.
with your own didge or $50. and you take one with you!
FYI forward on to anyone that may be interested -

In memory of local cyclist Sarah Howard -- who was killed by a motorist
last Friday while waiting in the bike lane for the light to change at Eagle
& Overland -- a special/informal Ride of Silence will take place
Wednesday October 24.

All Cyclists are invited.

Riders will gather around 5:15 to 5:30 and the ride will depart at 5:40 PM.

Gathering location will be Big City Coffee in the Linen District (1416
Grove).

Route will follow a short loop westward, turning back toward downtown Boise
Route details will be announced at the start:

Reasons for the Ride Of Silence:

> To express respect and sympathy for the grief that has befallen Sarah
> Howard's family;
>
> To renew and exhibit our trust that public laws and public works can
> accomplish the objective of public safety;
>
> To silently express the feeling that when roadway safety is breached, every
> cyclist's trust is violated;
>
> To conduct ourselves in full view of those who write and enforce public
> laws, and of those who plan and operate public works.
>
> To raise awareness (among motorists, police, and city officials) of
> cyclists on the road
>
> The Ride of Silence is a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph/20 kph). Chris
> Phelan organized the first Ride Of Silence in Dallas Texas in 2003 after
> endurance cyclists Larry Schwartz was killed by a passing bus mirror on an
> empty road.
>
> The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster
> than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride.
>
> The ride is to raise cycling awareness to motorists, police, and city
> officials. The ride is also a chance to mourn, in funeral procession style,
> those who have already been killed.
>
> For more information and history of the Ride of Silence please go to the
> Ride of Silence website

Just wanted to let you know, and to help the owners out at Aladdin's that they need a few more servers. Mostly, for day shifts, but they could also use probably one more night person as well. It is a pretty fun place to work if you like waitressing. It is family owned so there's no coorporate bs. The family that owns it are hard-working but also fun and understanding.

And, if you are into the middle eastern or Egyptian seen at all, you can add that to your job. I am a belly dancer myself, and The owners let me wear my hip scarves and some awesome egyptian eyeliner and I sometimes where head decorations as well. And at night I get to play my bellydancin cds : )

Anyways, hope there are some good, dependable waiters out there who need a job (or another job - she is very happy letting people work minimal part time if you need it) - If you are one, or you know one, come to/ send them to/ the restaurant and ask to talk to Nohah.
She is usually in the mornings monday-saturday, and sometimes she stops in in the evenings, and I know that she would stop in if that was the only time you had to meet her - call and find out if she is there or if you can make an appointment with her, or just stop by.

This Sunday evening, a man with whom very few of us are familiar will be
sharing his vision of a peaceful, healthy, more stress-free world. Through
the Art of Living Foundation, which was founded nearly 27 years ago, his
vision and teachings have enriched the lives of over 20 million people
worldwide, including mine. His name is Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. Sri Sri has
been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize six times, and he is also a United
Nations award recipient.

Join Sri Sri Ravi Shankar this Sunday, April 1st at 5:00 p.m. at the Boise

*Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is the creator of the world's largest peaceful
gathering... 2.5 million people. Hundreds of international dignitaries and
people from around the world gathered in February 2006, in Bangalore, India,
racial boundaries to help each individual create a more calm, peaceful,
stress-free life on a daily basis. What's the secret? Breath. Sri Sri
Ravi Shankar has discovered that the link between the mind and the body is
the breath. Have you ever noticed your breathing patterns when you are
stressed? The Art of Living teaches individuals how to use breath to
greater control the stress in the mind. From colleges and universities, to
prisons and war-torn regions, the Art of Living foundation is on a mission
to create world peace, one breath at a time.

Any recommendations for restaurants? Museums? Interesting places to visit? I adore ethnic food, but no Thai please (we've got no Indian food up here but have 9 Thai places). If at all possible, I'd love to catch a live dance performance, but I realize a Tuesday night may not be the best time for this.

Whether you've been there, are familiar with Brian Froud's work, are a fire/poi spinner, bellydancer, nature lover, faery lover, performance artist with a mythos emphasis, and have heard of bands like Woodland, Trillian Green or Kan'Nal, these are the kind of people I'm looking for. I'd like to join or be in a band with these themes, and/or just a group of people who are into this stuff so we can meet once a month or so. Have our own mini festivals or just have fun. Dance around bonfires if we feel so inclined. The last local celebration I went to that was even close to this was the one the Crone's Cupboard held two years ago. Then their building burned down and no more parties. I've been frustrated that there is nothing like this in the entire state of Idaho, and I can only get to Oregon and hang out with people like that once a year if that. So I'd like to get something going over here. Even if it's just like minded people meeting for movies, parties, outings, whatever. I'm not Wiccan or Pagan. But I like some of their ways. Goths are welcome too. I realize this whole thing may sound awkward, but I've been wanting to find people I have these interests in common with for years now. I heard there is also some kind of fire spinning/juggling group in town somewhere. I saw it in the Boise Weekly but didn't save it to remember how to contact them. I can't find a tribe for them either, can't remember their name. I can't move to Oregon where like-minded people are, so I hope there will be some of you out there who will know what I'm talking about. Let's get something started. I'm bored with all the mainstream people around here.

We want to play a show while we are in town whether its at a house show or a venue. I'm contacting a few places right now, but if anyone has any leads help me hook it up. We can fill a whole night with the the band playing an entire set and circus antics galore.

We play high energy gypsy swing with influences of jazz, blues, jug band/old time, circus and world music. The band is comprised of 6 core members with occasional collaberation of other vocals and instrumentation for certain songs including 2 guitars, a fiddle or two, a clarinet, drums,
cello, washtub bass, banjo, trumpet, accordian, and flutes

We just set up a myspace account at
-http://www.myspace.com/underscoreorkestra

And here is a link to some more of our music. These tracks were recorded live in our studio last winter, and we are currently recording newer versions to represent our fuller tighter sound.

The performance crew includes members of Cirkus Pandemonium, Circo Mutante/SPAZ and the Feral Clowns from the Clown House in Portland and specializes in acrobalance, dance, trapeze, fire spinning/breathing, juggling, contortion, bed of nails, rolobolos, stilts, tall bikes, minibikes, and clownery. We have a show that can be tailored to any venue but high ceilings are good or the ability to utilize outdoor space as we have a trapeze that mounts on the bus with stage on the roof, and can do fire performance outside.
You bet it's gorgeous outside! It's May in Boise! And besides the incredible joy of spring bursting out on us, is the anticipation of Boise's poetry slam FINALS. All year poets have competed for the chance to shine this one night and earn their place on Team Boise, which will go to Austin in August for the National Poetry Slam.

Poets: Did you place in the top three since last August? MAKE SURE WE HAVE YOUR INFO. Jeanne has the official count, and my unofficial count includes Brandon Follett, Casey O'Leary, Cheryl Maddalena, Cody, Conscious, Denise Oshodi, Dustin Lapray, Gabe Matheney, Katie, Lisa Collard, Megan, and YNOT. We need to confirm all the poets who qualified and want to compete, so that the schedule of poets can be planned based on the number of poets competing. If you are or know a qualified poet who isn't on my list above, let me know, and if you are on the list, please make sure we have your contact info. Thanks.

RECAP:
Last month's slam, the last qualifier, brought three new poets into the finals! The house was full, Jeanne was gorgeous, and Gabe Matheney took home the top prize and repped worth his press (did you see him in the Statesman? http://www.idahostatesman.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060414/NEWS04/604140326/1047 ). The haikusters dueled out the best haiku of the year, and Casey O'Leary remained the undefeated bout champion, defeating Cheryl Maddalena with heart, good vibes, and an awesome cover of a Brandon Follett original.
I wanted to make sure you were all invited to this crazy event in Utah. It would be great to have all of our family together. If you could please pass this event on to all of your friends and family it would make for a successful event. If any of you would like to showcase performance art and or art let me know. I look forward to share this experience with you all! Thanks

What Is MuseFest?

MuseFest is an experience of community awakening through music, art, and participation. It will have 3 stages, more than 10 live band and DJ acts, hours of music, dozens of performers, and copious amounts of interactive art.
For one day the Great Saltair will turn into an art and music festival that will allow the audience to travel through various worlds of interaction and atmospheres. Two domes will be erected outside at the edge of the barren salt beds. One for relaxing from the madness that surrounds you while chilling to some of Utah’s greatest downtempo, the other bumping beats from Salt Lake Cities finest DJ’s and producers. The Great Saltair, gleaming like a desert mirage will house 50,000 watts of sound transmitting some of the finest acid-rock and electronic talent to ever play in Utah.
Break Beats, Indy Rock, Acid Rock, Experimental, Shamanic, Drum & Bass, Trip Hop, Down Tempo, Mid Tempo Tech Hop, Tribal, Jungle, Intellectual Glitch, and a little spontaneity will be rocking the dance floor non stop.
Multiple stages will be set through out the event colored with amazing costumes and performers including Fire Spinners, Stilt Walkers, Jugglers, Hula Hoop Girls, Go Go Dancers, Cultural Dancers, Drumming, Spoken Word, Live Art, Graffiti Artists, and a plethora of Performance Artists.
Any artist can display or create their art at MuseFest. We welcome artists and interaction; The Salt Air creates a blank canvas upon which any vision can be realized. Most art installations contain an interactive element allowing participants to fully engage with the piece instead of viewing it from a safe distance as we are use to in our museum and gallery oriented world.
Whatever your tastes, MuseFest will have something to inspire and elevate everyone. Come prepared to participate and find a muse to mix up the mundane.

You may have picked up that Boise Slam Poets are doing a special event called War of Words on Saturday. A War of Words is an all-bout exhibition - it gives poets a chance to test their best work, and gives an audience the chance to root for their favorite poets in the bout format.

Well, in a bout format, each poet needs a "dance partner" so to speak, and we had one poet have to drop out because of a work conflict.

So, Boise poets, do you want to dance with us on Saturday? E-mail cheryl at cheryl_maddalena@yahoo.com and say so - we are looking for someone who has performed at least on open-mic, and who has 3 poems. Don't be shy, there won't be any casualties at this War and it will be fun for all.

If you know a great poet who is not on this list, forward our request on to them!

The event info is below.

I moved here from San Francisco. Not out of any blue investment dream, but because of family. My granfather built the Mores Creek bridge that you cross on Hwy 21 north of Lucky Peak. Our family house in NW Boise was alone among fields and sheep once. My parents raised us in Oregon, Salem specifically, and then retired and moved back here. There were family deaths, a vacant house. SF lost it's charm, and me my compass...
I've tried to find traction here. But I didn't graduate from the local institutions. I'm not "IN". I don't relate to the local populace. I just don't fit.
I've made some friends here, some just like me, having moved back here. And none of us feel comfortable here. It's like Boise doesn't want us.
I'm setting my sites on Portland when I can. Big enough, liberal enough, comfortable enough...I dig what Boise has on exterior; climate, clean, calm...but since I'm not terribly religious, and not from here, I feel like I'm not welcome...
Am I alone in this?
